im upgrading my 45 long salt tank to a 98gal. the 45 has enough filtration to just be transfered over to the 95. can i just add all the filters lights rocks sand and water to the 98 and just add more salt water or is adding that much new water going to cause a cycle? i have 2 dominos and a pipefish a pistol shrimp few hermits and some corals if this helps any.

you arent adding any more stock only a higher amount of water so no you shouldnt cycle as long as you keep your water movement over your sand bed and live rocks the same as in the other tank.

Disturbing the anaerobic areas of the bed may cause a small cycle, and could release toxins into the water column. Remove the fish/life prior to disturbing the bed.

You could rinse the sand bed with tank water during the move to help minimize it.

this is true and also why i run a very light sand bed to try to stay away from having anaerobic build ups, makes me tend to forget about this.

did the move and decided since i have room i added another 30 pounds of live rock, Fiji this time. pics when i find the camera charger

that should handle any possible small cycle if you have it in the tank right away.

couldnt find the cam charger but went to the LFS and got an emerald crab for 15bucks he wouldnt leave the piece of tonga he was on so the guy threw it in for free, just cause i liked it and the crab came to 16.50 after taxes i said keep the 20 got home and seen not one but two emeralds on the rock!!!

gotta love free hitchikers...... you will be amazed at all the things you find in your tank that you didnt know you put in there. just hope you dont get a mantis shrimp lol
