I am thinking of adding another tank, it would be a 75G. I am looking to get a 75G tank so I can get some larger cichlids. What would be the best filtration system for a 75G and which fish would you recommend for it???

I currently have a 55G setup with:

1 x Turq Severum
1 x L114
2 x giant danio
1 x geophagus
2 x EMP 400 HOB Filters

I'm just getting tired of being limited by the 55G size..Can't really house any real monsters in it.

What kind of cichlids are you interested in South American African etc? If it was be Id go with a mumba tank there full of color very active and you can put a lot in a 75. If you would rather have bigger cichlids then I would say South Americans but then your limited on the number you can have. It really depends on what your wanting and what your looking for.

As far as filtration you could either go with a couple HOB's or a couple canisters or one big canister or a canister and a HOB. Again really depends on you. HOB's tend to be cheaper but canisters are usually quieter and usually are able to hold more media but can get pricey. On my 75 right now I have one HOB did have two but one broke and haven't got around to replacing it. If you do go with HOB I would suggest getting two so that way you have one on each side. Right now in my 75 one side is usually clean and everything collects on the other. A powerhead could help with that also.

My favorite HOB is the emperor 400 many people like the Aqua clears I personally don't care for them I've never had any luck with them but thats just me. As far as canisters theres ehiems which are considered one of the best but are pricey then theres fluval which I have two fx5's on my 150 and really like them. Theres also rena and some others that are pretty good. I've also heard good things about some of the cheap knockoffs on ebay.

The nicest filter you could have on a 75 would be a big ol' sump (read the diy section of the forum). This is more money and work however.
On my 75 I'm setting up atm I'm doing two sponge filters each rated for 100gallons (15$ each) and a wal-mart hob, because I have it.
A pair of Jack Dempsy, with some dither fish that you don't mind getting killed would be neat. or one big Midas or Oscar...
