can some experienced keepers give input on the differences in behavior and feeding between uppers and lower jawed polys pertaining to behavior in the wild as well as in the aquarium??

Upper jaws are usually way more active han lower jaws but lower jaws get bigger and in my opinion they are cooler and more prehistoric looking.

upper jaws are awesome and look pretty cool whereas lower jaws get alot bigger and look like their faces have been stepped on.

for aggression, upper jaws are not that aggressive except for some (but not all) ornates, whereas for lower jaws, be cautious when putting tank mates because those guys can potentially kill other stock if it can fit in it's mouth.

My upper jaws tend to dwell around the surface if I have floating plants in my tank, which leads to them blocking the overflow...

Upper jaws are more active in a community. They have smaller mouth and the head tend to resemble a snake.
Lower jaws are less active and usually get aggressive during feeding time. Their lower jaws are longer than the top jaws. Lower jaws look more like a prehistoric dragon once they reach 18"+.

I prefer lower jawed. I like their spoon head shape and in my experience, my lower jawed seem to pile more than upper jawed. To be honest, as far as aggression, the only polys in my tank that show any aggression at all are my ornates.

At 17" every bichir seems to get more aggressive, atleast in my tank and a friends tank. Males get most aggressive but seen really angry female endlicheri also.

I ask because I'm growing out 2 baby ornates and a cpl of senegals to eventually pu tin my 220 gal and have never really been into lowers jaws but am starting to become interested in keeping an endli or a lap as well. although i cannot fing a lap to have shipped anywhere but i have found baby endlis on bluegrass aquatics. would there be potential problems keeping them all together if they are all around the same size?

there should be no problem keeping all the bichirs the same size. In fact bichirs live to pile together to feel secure.

also do any of you guys endlis do much open swimming or are they just logs for the most part?
it really depends what your fish personality is like. From what I have heard is that endli is like a log. However my two CB endli swim around all day. One would even eat pellets from the surface. My advice to you is to watch them for 10mins then pick the most active one with the best patterns.
