sorry for the other thread.....I meant UPPER JAWS not lower jaws. lol The small upper jaws like the palmas, moke, delhezi, senegal, retro, buettikoferi.

WHooopps

Hello everyone, I'm trying to get back on the poly train. upgrading my 55gal is tentative because it is limited by my living/financial/career situation... The upgrade of a 75 is possible, if I can convince my parents. But currently the answer is :"no tanks bigger than a 55g until I move out and get long term career going."

Is it possible to have any of the smaller UPPER jaw polys comfortable in a 55g for a year, maybe two years? I would never want to make a fish uncomfortable or stunt its growth. Just realistically, upgrading might not be possible for 1-2 years.

Check ur other post. There are some answers for u.

I still think if the upgrade is within a yr or so you can keep some of the bigger polys ornates cb endli and such

If you say 1-2 years, we should plan on 2. :)

I think that you should most defintely go 75 gallon as I mentioned in the other thread. If they're used to the 55 in the house the 75 won't seem that much bigger to the eye because they're both 4 feet. But in reality to the fish it would be much bigger.

I dunno i would say respect your parents wishes and be honest about the tank size, it is their house lol.

This is my .02 cents
Plenty of is are keeping polys that have the potential ro pass 24 inches in 24 inch wide tanks, shoot im keeping them in a 18 inch wide tank. Wouls never have done that but like you i plannwd on an upgrade. Thought it would happen in 6 months ended up taking over a year.

These fish arent high octane fish i would think some of my endlis are dead if it werent for gill movement.

Plus they slow down considerably once they hit that 10 to 12 inch mark.

Manage water quality by testing and asjusting wc's dont over feed and you will be fine

My fear is like me you may "over" fear their growth rates and stock with polys that even though nice are not what you REALLY want long term. If it were me i would get a couple of small cb endlis and and ornate if they all get along great if not i would probably add a larger del too.

Managing wc's and feedings are what worked for me

You should be able to sell your parents on the 75... unless you're looking at an iron stand, most stands sold for a 55g also work for a 75g, so the footprint should be the same. The only difference is depth from front to back, it'll greatly increase the amount of fish and the size of fish you can keep, without taking up any additional space in the house (if that's their primary concern). But yeah, I'm with jaws, don't do anything without their buy-in, but you might be able to sway them to allow you to get the 75 based on the similar dimensions and likelihood of using the same stand.

Yeah, you can get a small cb endli and ornate, 55g width is 12"-13" right? Most polys slow down with their growth after 10", so you will be fine.
