Whats the difference? Ive never own bichirs before so im trying to learn as much as i can. I know there are all the different types of them but what defines them as an upper or lower jaw?

lower jaws get bigger and there lower jaws protrude out more then the upper and vice versa 4 upper jaws

Hi,

just google pictures of Polypterus senegalus an Polypterus endlicheri an compare there Jaws...

P. senegalus belongs to the upper jaw group, P. endlicheri belongs to the lower jaw group! You can will see it immediately!

Agreed with everyone.
It's quite fascinating, really.

I love finding such details with fish. For instance, my channel cat has a front bite and my pacu has an underbite :P

in my opinion this is the part that matters
lower jaw=larger, more expensive and more predatory more nocturnal less active
upper jaw=cheaper smaller size more readily available less predatory more active

Very true, only exception really is the upper jaw ornate gets large. I love the look of endlis but in general I like the more active upper jaw species.
