Hey everyone, I was forced to get out of the hobby of keeping bigger fish due to my floor being questionable (3rd floor of a really old house, 70 gallon tank, yeah.. Nort Gurd :screwy: )

So, I decided I cannot accept being out of fish keeping completely, so I did the next best thing... set up my 5 (or 10.. not sure) gallon with a tiny fish. I stumbled across the USDcatfish and nearly died due to how creepy and slightly adorable they look.. not to mention the whole upside down thing was pretty interesting.

Here's the lil dude!

And the setup, with DIY "sponge" filter and makeshift lid. Ghetto style FTW :headbang2

Thanks for looking!

You are the first I've ever heard to refer to synos as "creepy"... but hey, it's a taste thing, nothing wrong with that :) I think they are awfully adorable though. Congratulations and I admire your resilience. These lil' dudes like to shoal and do grow no more than 3"-4" SL. So, for a ten gal, you could have a group of maybe 3-5, depending on your filtration.

Haha! He's a lil creepy but I agree DEFINITELY adorable :D

I just couldn't accept losing all my fish, I mean.. I'm a Reptile person for the most part but I love all animals, and keeping fish gave me the best of both worlds. I personally wouldn't keep birds/mammals like I use to so fish/reptiles all the way! I had decided early on that if for any reason I had to shut down my 70 gal, that I would figure out some other way to keep fish and this was the answer :)

It's great to hear they stay small and they shoal! I like the idea of shoaling fish since only one to a 5 or 10 gal would be less exciting to say the least (not that id complain if that was the case but you know what I'm saying lol!) I plan on getting a few more for sure, and the DIY sponge filter is temporary. I am out of a job at the moment so I have had to get creative to keep my 5 snakes, 1 lizard, and now, one creepy Syno LOLOL! But that should change soon!

Thanks! More updates to come, I'm sure of it :)

I guess what you had was Mystus leucophasis, aka asian USD catfish. Here, we are talking about an USD syno catfish, Synodontis nigriventris. They are very different fishes.

It had silver spots. I didn't know much about him someone gave him to me. He was agrrssive he used to pick on my 2 foot channel cats he randomly died one day never figured out why
