SO basically im getting a new filter for my 10 gallon tank. I would prefer a filter with auto priming since the place that i live in is prone to sudden blackouts. I would also the filter to be fairly cheap. I would like to hear MFKś opinions. Thanks

+1 Sponge filter, cheap, easy, and if power does fail it is in your tank to keep it alive, although "unsightly" imo. Back flow valve on the airline and you're pretty fail proof.

I just picked up a Seachem Tidal 110 for my daughters Axolotl tank and I am quite impressed with it. She went from 1 axolotl in a 29 to one adult and 2 juveniles in a 55 so it was time to upgrade. We like the adjustable flow, self priming and the media bucket that pulls out of the filter and snaps into the top of the lid to carry to the sink for cleaning. It is a very well thought out nicely engineered filter. The Tidal is quieter than the sponge filter it is replacing.

I have a nice Eheim Pro3 in the garage that would have worked well but my daughter can maintain the Tidal 110 by herself, I would have had to help her maintain the Eheim.

No filter that I know of will replace periodic water changes.
