I was wondering if anyone knew if it was safe to use urethane to seal up drift wood in an aquarium? Thanks for any help.

Just a thought you better make sure it will sink before sealing it otherwise will be a floating log for life. Just wondering why would you want to do this? What are you trying to accomplish?

The idea isn't really to use it on driftwood, but to use it to make decorations of my own. By saying that I was wanting it on drift wood will hopefully tell people that I was talking about the brushable type. Thanks.

it should work ,and shouldnt be toxic .others might know more than me

I work for a flooring company, and we do plenty of sanding and refinishing. We reseal the floors with either an oil or water-based sealant. I would think that as long as you allow the sealant to fully cure, there shouldn't be any issues.
Much the same way that I make sure the silicone I use has fully cured before placing MY home made ornaments in my aquariums.
I believe as long as you allow the product to off-gas completely, you should be fine.

What kind of decorations are you planning?

The idea is to make very large, more realistic looking plants for one of my very large aquariums. I tried a very primitive test by coating large pieces of a bush in urethane and it stayed green and live looking for around six months. I will try to do this to see if i can get underwater brush and plants that look better than fake plants but without the hastle of trying to keep them alive.
