Hi All,

I have been on an extended 7 month abscence with work, I left my RTC in the care of my folks who somewhat misinterpreted my instructions.

I've returned to find the RTC has been fed 6-8 inch mullet on a daily basis, the filter was horrid, ph about 6 and the RTC has begun getting what appears to be bacterial infections on his body.

Consequently I've water changed the tank and given our water is soft I have been buffering with Seachem Equilibrium. The RTC hasn't eaten substantially in about 3-4 weeks, I managed to get him to take a small amount of pea and prawn frozen mix a couple of days ago, but he will not eat anything now. Tonight he has spent a great deal of time standing vertically in his tank and then will swim back to the bottom.

If anyone more knowledgeable than me has any suggestions on where to go from here, I'd really appreciate it. It's awfully sad for me to see him like this, I never had a problem before I left.

Apologies, I have had problems in the past with the RTC but not as a consequence of massive overfeeding, he has always recovered fine from previous incidents.

Ammonia, Nitrite. Nitrate readings ?

What size is the fish and what size is the tank ...

PH 6 is fine nothing to worry about....Equilibrium will not raise your PH or buffer your water it is a general hardness buffer not a carbonate hardness buffer.

What WC's was he getting while you were away ?
Mullet isn't good for RTC's too much oil BTW

You need to be doing massive WC's daily until things are back under control.
