Well just yesterday I bought a small black veil angel and by this morning she had split fins at the top dorsal and split on the same fin down closer to the body. The tank has 3 corey cats, 2 weather loaches, a bristle nose pleco, and an adolecent Clown Knife fish. Now the first thing I though was the clown knife was picking on her, he couldnt eat the angel even if he wanted, so Iv been watching closely and the knife will swim up to it then swim away. Not one bit of aggression! So what the heck is going on? Could it be possible that maybe there to much of a current in the tank or maybe spending to much time by the bubblers, she likes to hid behind them. I guess the fins could have been like that when I got her, she did hide all day yesterday when I brought her home.

i still think it is the clown knife, when i tried a couple small veils in my tank that had senegals in it, it was a massive fail. they didnt act aggressive at all when i first added them they just swam up to them to check them out and then swam away but once night fell they tore them up, i had three that day, the next day i had one that barely had any fins left so i had to quickly transfer him to my quarantine tank to heal him up. but during the day they showed no aggression and then tore them up at night so my guess would be on the knife since they are a similar predator
Thats sucks...Im going to see how tonight goes, if theres more tears the veil will be transfered Im thinking.
Last night I turned off the tank light and shined a flashlight into the tank and I was amazed. Absolute carnage, that Knife Fish tried his darned hardest to kill the angel so I seperated the angel and decided that today was the day the Knife got his own home by himself.
thats good that you saw it in time and separated the angel, and yeah thats what i thought was happening, those kinds of predators can be down right vicious when the lights go out
I was just down right amazed, it happened almost instantly when the lights went out. The angel is now happily back in his original home ^-^
