I was laying in bed sleeping when i heard a thump and noticed my filter stopped running. I got up and looked in the tank, couldnt find my juvenile Delhezi.. I pulled the tube of the filter out and found he was stuck in there..

I have no idea how.. there was a guard on the filter, maybe it wasnt on tight enough..?

Anyway, the only thing keeping him from getting chopped up was anohter guard. I managed to rip the guard off, cutting myself, etc, and he fell out and swam into the tank.

He is breathing, but he has red marks near his gills, on top of his head, and on the two feelers... He also wont expand any of the fins on his back, not sure if those are hurt or not... No blood as far as i can tell...

Will he be ok? I got him a few days ago, if i knew the filter would fall apart and he would get sucked up i would have found a diff one..

So, do i need to freeze him to put him out humanely, or will he live?

Please help!

Had the same thing happen. He was jammed in there so tight I used another water pump w/ a hose to push him back out. He recovered fine..... Then got eaten by an Endlicheri. There is still hope for it unless you have a larger hungry Endlicheri.

No other fish in tank, was going to buy a rapheal tommorrow, but maybe i shouldnt now untill he recovers? Also, he is breathing really heavy, and seems reluctant to get air, should i put an airstone under him to draw him up, or would that frighten him?

Im not even sure if he can swim, he has moved a little, but not swimming...

well when my polyies get hurt i just add some salt to the tank and wait out...
give the little guy a chance don't ''put him out'' 1st...

No salt, just leave him in there and turn off the lights
and hope for the best

I thought about taking a large bowl from the kitchen and putting it in the upside down and at an angle to trap some air.. good idea, or no?

He almost seems afraid to swim up, that or he cant because he is injured...

ermm... u mean cover him in a submerged bowl?! pls dont do that!!! he needs air to breath... covering him with a submerged bowl will more likely suffocate him than do him good...

lol i think the op wanted to use the bowl to bring him an air bubble down to the bottom so the fish wouldnt have to swim all the way to the top. thoughtful yes. necessary i don't think so. i think the op should just listen to cjiejian and spiritofthesoul and just give him sometime to calm down cause he did just get sucked into a filter lol
