My two id sharks have a white fluffy/fuzzy fungus looking substance around their mouths. Im not sure what it is or how to treat it can someone please help me!

Hello; In the distant past I used methylene blue as a fungus treatment. Not always effective. Probably best to use in a quarantine tank as it will stain some things like silicone and plastic tubing. There are likely better products available. This website may have some articles and a search should give you some pointers. Mouth fungus was always a tough one to cure.

I've treated fungal infections in the past with some of my turtles by making the water more acidic(tannic acid from leaves) and adding a little aquarium salt. Its a pain so good luck man.

This stuff is bad to the bone

Sure way to kill your Pangasius so. is Methylene blue. Don't use it on this fish or any scaleless fish for that matter. Best to us a salt treatment. I mean don't make the water saltwater just add some salt like you normally might do. Not much you can do with this fish with fungus. Just hope it gets better. I don't think its fungus though without seeing a picture. Might just be dead skin from constant rubbing.

Well guys im nOt even sure if it is a fungus.. Could be like a mold if thats not the same as fungus lol. Or maybe just a festering wound im not sure. I use salt in my tank currently. But i will add more

If you look closely here you can see the stuff on the net, when i rested the net on the top of my tank so he could swim around in the net in the water while i got my camera ready he was swimming against the abrasive net which removed some of the fuzz. Note how it looks in the water.

Below is a picture of the stuff after i put the fish back in the water. It looks like slime out of water with a gooey consistency, i didnt touch it.

Here is a picture of his mouth, unfortunatley most of the stuff came off when he was rubbing against the net, but you can still see a sore, and maybe a little bloody look but i havnt noticed any actual bleeding. There is also some of the stuff still on him.

Here you can kind of see some of the stuff hanging off of his mouth.

You can see how it actually protrudes off of his head/mouth and is clearly visible something isnt right.

WTF is this, i am new to fishkeeping and i had a tank when i was younger when i didnt know anything at all about aquariums, i had a fish die from a substance like this that grew all over his body, probably because i didnt know how to take care of a tank. I tried to take the best pictures that i could, but its hard to take a picture of a fish that is easily scared by any movement outside the tank, and its hard to hold a camera and take a pic of a fish out of water, especially a juvenile and fragile fish like this.

Also i just tested my water.
Amonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 40 ppm ( i have a API test kit and i just match the color of the water to the color codes, but it could be anywhere from 40-80 ppm lol fail)

Anyways i am not too concerned with the nitrate levels because this is a newly setup aquarium and my biological filter is still being established. Is this a bigger problem than i think? What are the effects of high nitrate on my fish besides algae growth in the tank (which i havnt had yet).

Its hard to see. When fish rubs its mouth or nose constantly it gets sore as you know and wears the skin away and build a blister like bump. The skin tries to regrow but keeps getting rubbed on and builds up a thick slime which I think can look like fungus. I don't know what you can do to make them stop rubbing the glass. Maybe add some tall plastic plants in the corner so the can hide behind so they feel save might help. Irridescent sharks are such a skittish fish they often injure themself banging the glass in panics. If they don't make it maybe try some bigger ones if you got to have this fish.
