I left for 3 days on vacation and returned to my favorite Green terror dull in color, swimming abnormally, and looked very swollen. I mad a few changes to the tank before i left. First off i of course broke an eheim 2217, so the tank only had one running since Friday morning. Second, I added a 6" EBJD and mini water lettuce, only enough to cover about 1/3 of the tanks surface. Lastly, I left some of the ceramic rings from my filter hanging in the tank. I attached pictures showing his gill area, stomach, and swimming movement. The nuchal hump has always been there but did seem larger when i came back home.
All other fish are doing fine and are still very healthy. Almost all tankmates are smaller in size, the tankmate similar in size is a 9" GT (the sick one is around 11"). The only thing i can think of that caused the random illness is he may have been eating the mini water lettuce and got extremely constipated.

If anyone has any idea what could be causing this and how to treat it please let me know. Any input helps, I dont think he will make it until morning so I'd like to consider all input by tonight.

He wont eat now but is normally fed hikari cichlid gold, hikari cichlid bio gold, hikari cichlid staple, hikari sinking algae wafers, southern delight large cichlid food, omega one large sinking cichlid pellets, frozen tilapia, and occasionally earthworms/ night crawlers.

Should I cure this like I would for dropsy? I'm not sure if dropsy causes trouble swimming, everything I have read has not suggested so. It must have started within 3 days from now so I am going to have to act quick. Would anyone agree with treating 1/8 tsp of Epsom salt per 5 gallons of water, normal marcyn two treatment, and feeding food soaked in a sachem kanaplex solution

I would do as you suggested but I usually dose heavier Epsom at 1 teaspoon. Hope he pulls thru for you

So he's doing fine now after the normal 5 day treatment of marcy plus in combination with food soaked in a kanaplex solution. I am going to keep him in the 50 gallon quarantine for a few more days since a pair of gts in the community tank just spawned. The female laid eggs yesterday afternoon. Does anyone think the illness could be related to fighting my other male? I noticed no signs of injury on either of them but i thought it was odd that after just 4 days of removing him the two fish spawned. They had never shown any breeding behavior and the female showed no signs of interest in them.
