Today while i was at school my dad said that my 4inch bass had a 2inch texas cichlid in it's mouth. He said that he was nearly dead so he caught out the bass and tried to pull the texas out of his mouth but it wouldn't work so it had to be pulled out through his gill. He's not looking so so good a bit battered. So i moved him into a 4x2x2 with is heavily planted and full of caves and bogwood. I didn't think that the texas would fit in his mouth. Later i'm gonna give him some bloodworm. I love him so much he's the only PB that i own as they are very rare near me. Do you think that he'll pull through?

I've been watching him, he's been swimming about, and one side looks reasonably ok and then his other side is a bit scraped and has a cloudy eyes, and ragged tail. i asume that he got these from thrashing around. My dad said that he jumped and hit the cover aswell. Aside from that he is comming around welle ven though he has only been in the tank for 90mins. I think that he should come around. I'll update with his progress.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Keep the temp up at about 82 to reduce the risk of fungal attacks on the scraped areas. Adding a teaspoon of salt per gallon will also reduce stress and inhibit infections setting in. Keep the lights off, too to aid in reducing stress.

Hopefully, none of his gill rakers were damaged in the tex removal process. Boost aeration if he appears to be breathing too rapidly.

Sorry about that. It's never a good idea to mess with gills. They must have been damaged in the removal of the Texas.
Better luck next time.

sorry about your loss, next time just let him eat it. oh and be sure to post pics in the dead fish thread.

He couldn't swallow it, half of the fish was hanging out through his gill. And he was choking on it.

oh i didnt realize that half the life was sticking out of his gill already
