LONG BEACH
Hi, i need your urgent help on my newly bought Tigrinus Catfish. He had been thrashing 360 degrees, swimming uncontrollably the whole night after a long drive when i picked him up from a seller. This a.m. he was swimming straight but with torn fins a lot of wounds on the tail, both whiskers broken , very weak and wont eat in my community tank. do you think he will recover / do i need to place him in a hospital tank for now? i need your advice, thanks.

Sounds like it got mauled by something else, what are the tankmates? And yes, I'd say isolation in a hospital tank.

This doesn't happen by itself, what are the tankmates?

cant help if you wont let us know what is in the tank with it

Probably hurt himself thrashing about.

If you just put him in the tank the day before he probably won't eat until he's comfortable. Try upping the temperatures and raising the heat a bit. A quarantine tank would've been good for when you brought it home initially. Moving it now is going to stress it more. Good luck.

Should already be seperated... QT any new arrivals... But seeing as he's particularly stressed and already hurt.. deffinately deffinately seperate into a QT tank.. keep lights off/low and quiet w/ safe hide spots. his thrashing may have triggered a response from even the most "docile" of tank mates to pick at him. How did you acclimate him? 360 thrashing ect is often a sign of a PH shock ime.. either the fish survive it or they don't often times.
