hey guys, my glass aquarium leaked a while ago.. it was a loose sealant in the upper portion of a corner. due to this, i had to urgently remove the fishes in there which include 6 oscars. 1 pacu. 1 peacock bass. 3 chinese hi fins and 2 clown knives. and a Golden shark. i decided to leave my 16 inch pleco in there. for it was too big for my other tanks which are really cramped due to the unplanned transfers.

i left half of the water in for the pleco btw. anyway, can i fix the tank without having to remove all the water? what do i need to reglue or to patch up the leaking corner? any good ideas? i really need help urgently! how do i re seal the leaking corner? please i really need ur help....

i'm keeping those fishes with really dangerous fishes and potential killers such as my Alligator gar, RTC, Aba-aba and a Red Snakehead.

You will have to empty the tank. Get some big rubber maids for the meantime and filter them. Scrape old silicone off and re apply new after you properly clean the area. I would re seal the whole tank. You will be fine go get those tubs they are a life saver!!!

got any ideas on how long will it take to finish this sir? and what should i use as a sealant to seal them? any recommendations sir?

It would not take long to do it but it should dry for 7 days minimum and buy like 10 tubes of "aquarium sealant" or silicone. It is found at the pet giants. Just ask and they will lead you to it. The faster you get the tubs the less stress on you.....

you do not have to reseal the whole tank even though that is the best way
when my 135 leaked in the upper corner
all i did was to scrape off all the silicone in that area and resealed using a lot of silicone
making sure to overlap all the old stuff
remember new silicone doesn't stick very well to old but being that your leak is at the top it will most likely hold due 2 low water pressure

just my 2 cents

much thanks sir... i hope my fishes doesn't get eaten by then............... and i really dont think of putting them in smaller tanks/containers coz i dont wanna stunt their growth.... ah.. the stress of unforced errors......

theyre just babies... 3-5 inch fishes...

do you think it is safe to do this sir..? i'm really considering this idea for the reason of me wanting my tank just to hold for at least a few months before i get a replacement..... i won't seem to ever trust this tank anymore except of course if i do a good job on fixing it or turn it in to a overflow.... sadly...

I never said he had to re seal the whole tank...I said I would....And to suggest someone taking a major risk in the living room of their home? No Way! Drop the tank and at least re seal the whole effected seam. Do the testing in your garage or outside for added safety to your home....

mines sitting right here in my office
been almost a year with this very same fix and zero i repeat zero problems
also a leak at the top of a tank will not destroy a living room
second if you had read my entire post you would have seen i merely suggested this as a option to get his tank going asap
here is my thread about my 135 http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53201
and yes i'm not the only one that thinks that this will work

if the leak was at the bottom of the tank then i would have said strip the whole tank
but he said the leak is at the top and there is very little water pressure there so a quick fix such as this WILL WORK!!!!

might work^^^. A total failure beginning at the top seam is also possible. I am also only suggesting, but why be lazy when so much is on the line?????
