Gday all,i did a routine water change on friday,as per usual.Woke up saturday to find my pride and joy,20'' jardini has injured himself badly.looks like hes tried to jump out but has hit the weighted lids.he smashed his nose, taken big scrapes down both sides of its body and his eyes have sunken in pretty badly.hes very lathargic and not eating.i can see a few spots which blood can be seen.ive been treating the water with melafix for the last week for my TSN and have continued it for my jar.i read somewhere that sunken eyes was from loss of blood,is this true?all the other fish are doing fine.any ideas???

All i can say is Hope your jardini heals and dont turn on the light in the tank give it some cover do a water change every few days and add melafix dont startled it much and probably the reason he/she jumped is maybe because it was hungry so keep trying to feed him but he will eat sooner or later Good luck and God Bless Hope Your Jardini Heals Quickly

Good advice. The damage dosn't look too bad and should heal on it's own. What I started doing on a lot of my tanks is to pick up several really long plastic plants...remove the bases and let them float on the top of the water. The problem aros have is that they cant see the glass tops or egg crate. Pinky hasn't banged her head once now that the floating plants are in the tank.

The best you can do is make sure your water is especially clean, add some Melafix (as you're already doing) or salt, and maybe up the emp a little. Keeping the tank dark for a few days as suggested above is also a good idea.

Generally, big fish are pretty hardy and can survive most things, especially scratches, scrapes, etc. You should maybe think about what the cause for the jumping/fights was?

If you could post more details of your tank (size, filtration, tankmates) then we'd be able to find a solution easier..

What happened to your TSN?
