URGENT! need help ASAP - plant suffocating

I just reveived a shipment of tiger lotus, and aponogeton just the bulb. there is a little sprout coming out and i NEED to know what angle to plant them. i heard if you plant them incorrectly it will die. and should i burry it in the gravel?

I bury them in the gravel, bulb down growth up.... Like your lotus. Don't worry too much it will be fine.
