Hi , first time having ray pups, I came home just to find a dead pup in my pond. I have 2 adult males and 2 adult females in the pond with Koi .
I am not sure which female is giving birth but he dead pup has what looks like a bite mark.
An hour later, I found another pup, somi jumped in to find that it too has passed on. Has a bite mark too

I am utterly devastated. I don't know if she is going to have another one. I sat and watched for an hour but nothing.

I can see one of the females being constantly surrounded by the three rays. She seems to be swimming vertically against the pond wall.

Is she going to have another one?

What is the duration between pups when giving birth?

Please help!! How to stop another killing?

The pond is 3m by 3 m and 1.3m deep

That sucks man! I don't know how long between pups. But the other rays probably think they are food. It is best to seperate pregnant females. What are you going to do with anymore pups? They need the same pond water mom is in.

if its a pond he can make a floating nursery. as far as what ray is prego if the other 2 males keep surrounding her then i would say thats probably it. as far as the bite marks. an adult ray can really do some damage if it were to bite a pup. so how big of bite marks are you seeing and did you take any pics so we can figure out what is biting them or if its just a deformality.

as far as how long in between. they can keep popping out or in some cases a few hours in between. there is no specific on that. i would watch and see who the males are chasing though then seperate her or both females here in about 90 days though. maybe put a divider in with males and all other fish on one side and the females on the other side as she will most likely be knocked up again before the day is up.
