I have 2 Uromastyx had one for about 3years the other just over 2 years.
At first I had them on millet substrate till they were about 8" but for about the last 6months I have had them on sand. Ive been reading a lot about different substrates for them and have read that sand can be harmful for them. What are some good alternatives? I would like to use this
ExcavatorTM Clay Burrowing Substraten but is this any better then sand?

it is better than sand once it hardens, mianly because it does harden up. the problem with it with uro's is that they like to dig and burrow. I still use birdseed/millet for my uro's and use the same setup as deer fern farms for breeding. I've never had any problems with this setup other than getting rid of the seed when changing it out (too many pigeons in my area to throw it out for hte birds).

I put the dig/laybox in with both sexes, and all seem to enjoy it.

Ive seen people using just fine mixes of play sand, peat and soil on their uros, I would however avoid that for young animals
