Looking to venture into the world of reptiles with a Uro...most likely a U.geyri. I have a 40G breeder I would like to use and I understand this is the minimum sized tank suggested for this species. I do know they need 1 end of their tank hot in the 110-130*F range and the other end around 80*F. I know they also need a UVA/UVB bulb. The tank sits about 10ft from a window so it will get some indirect sunlight as well.

Substrate I have read a mix of playsand/organic top soil is best. I have also read that adding some peat moss to heir hide is a good idea to replicate a cooler damper "burrow".

Diet my understanding is spring mix along with shredded veggies such as bell pepper, squashes, and carrots. Sprinkled with calcium/vitamin supplement. Can give random feedings of dried lentils, apples, strawberries.

For cage maintenance scoop feces whenever there are any and change cage monthly.

Am I missing anything? Any other helpful tips as this will be my first lizard....also some suggestions on a reputable breeder would be great!

Only thing u appear to have wrong is tank size,Uros need at least 75 gallons, but on the plus side u can keep a couple in there, improper tank size is the primary reason Uris used to have a reputation as hard to keep(they really aren't).
Sorry for the long post on tank size.

From my reading I would think they would be easier to keep than others just because you can feed them from the grocery store. I know temperature is kind of their issue needing such extremes.

Pretty much all reference I have seen states a 36x18 footprint for 1 Uro. Undoubtedly larger is better...if I were to use a larger enclosure I would probably buy a reptile specific enclosure vs an aquarium. Is temperature the primary reason for the larger enclosure being best? I would probably use the aquarium for awhile until the Uro grew....at what point would a 40B be insufficient?
