Hey guys.

We've got a bunch of lil Urophthalmus in a work and I've currently got several of them living in our saltwater section (well light saltwater, 1.017). Anyone else ever keep uros in brackish or marine? I'll put up pics soon...I wonder if their color will develope differently from the ones in the freshwater as they grow?

I never have kept uropthalmus, but they are known to occur naturally in FW, BW, and even SW environments. They are purportedly very tolerant of a variety of SGs. 1.017 is pretty saline, damn near full SW (1.021-1.025).

I personally doubt they will do well with 1.017. My friend had one in pretty heavy brackish (not as much as you though) for a while. He grew but didnt develop his color correctly and was always kind of peach colored with minimal stripes.

I wouldn't be surprised if a Uro could live in full saltwater. The one I kept was as tough (and aggressive) as hell.

They can. Both natural and introduced populations of uros have been found in full SW.

I've seen wild Uros spawn in salt water, no problemo. Color depends on diet, include lots of shrimp and you get a redder fish. Ken

Thanks guys! Will keep you posted...
