The formation of The USA Rock Paper Scissors League was announced today by co-commissioners Matti Leshem and Andrew Golder. Although the game has been played for as long as anyone can remember, the League has been formed to bring the previously chaotic game rules and structure
The game's history has been heatedly debated for years. What you may not know is that it's actually over 6.3 million years old, having begun way back when in East Africa when prehistoric men become bipedal. Back then it was known as Rock Rock Rock, and it took a while to catch on. According to Charles Darwin, as man and his tools evolved, so did the game. It became known as Rock Tablet Spear, eventually evolving again into today's well-known Rock Paper Scissors.
Bud Light is set host a nationwide tournament with the USARPS League in order to find the best Rock Paper Scissors player in the country. Beginning in January, any competitors 21 and older can compete in classic ladder tournaments in bars all across the U.S. More than 500 finalists and their guests will be flown to The House of Blues at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay in April to compete for a grand prize of $50,000. All tourneys will begin with competitor reciting the USA RPS oath, which can be found at the official website as www.usarps.com, along with the game's rules.
The A&E Network has signed on to be the League's first official media partner. It announced that they would cover the finals during a one-hour special aired some time after the live event is held.
