What can I use to safely clean this cloudy glass. When I picked up the tank from the LFS, I brought it home, we used the vaccuum to get all the gravel out. Then I put in hot water with a little bleach and used a new scrubber (no soap) to clean. A week later, I see that the glass is pretty cloudy.

Any ideas? Thanks!

is it glass or acrylic? 46g is a pretty popular size for being acrylic. scrubbing may have scratched it.

Smacking forehead..... sorry, forgot to mention, it's glass. And it was gobsmacked filthy when I picked it up.

Got all the gunk out, But left with the cloudiness.

Assuming the tank is empty and the glass is cloudy try using automotive rubbing compound(not polish or wax). 3M super heavy duty works well. Be sure to clean thoroughly as I don't think the residue would be good for the fish.

This has been quite interesting. I immediately went for the white vinegar, as I've heard that when you use it to clean windows with newspaper, it gains better results than the apple cider vinegar.

I took a new sponge, soaked it with the WV, applied to the tank and waited a little bit. Then I used soft dry papertowels and buffed it. It came beautifully clean except for the very top edges of the tank, all the way around. Apparently, the previous owners were real pigs when it came to cleaning.

Then I thought..... I have apple cider vinegar with mother. I wonder if that, since it's essentially "live", will work better. Hey, it gets rid of toenail fungus, so it was a decent bet. So, I applied that to the top 2 inches all the way around. Alas, it brought the cloudiness back as it was before. That was completely unexpected.

I've just dried that off and reapplied the WV. Will go back downstairs and buff again. No trip to the gym today for bicep curls. This is gonna take care of that. ;)

Thanks again for all the helpful hints and ideas.

PH Up.

Works fifty percent of the time, every time....

Sorry. Meant to say:

Fifty percent of the time, it works every time.

It has sulfuric acid in it. Eats away even the nastiest build up.

anymore ideas, i have tried the white vinegar, apple vinegar, ph up, and Iam im trying to stay away from the 3M super duty stuff. The tank i got is glass.
