Hi!
Just got a used tank with alot of calcium on the glass. I started cleaning it up with some paper towels with vinegar. Is there a better faster way that is fish safe?

My advice is probably going to get me yelled at, but I will say it anyway. BLEACH!!! Oh I love bleach. Every used tank I get, I bleach it and rinse it like crazy after. As long as you rinse it out EXTREMELY well, you won't have any problems. I prefer this because you never know what was in the old fish tank and don't want to infect your fish.

I don't think bleach will help with calcium. Vinegar usually works pretty well. What I do is spray them with vinegar, keeping them constantly wet with vinegar for a couple days then scrub them. If you let it soak for a couple days with full strength vinegar it comes off pretty good.

Someone here suggested pH Down sprayed on it because it is just sulfuric acid. Tried it on some calcium on a tank I have in storage and it worked ok.

Thanks! I think the previous reply lacked high school chemistry background

Why would you say that? Oh, and for the record, anything I say lacks a highschool chemistry background seeing as I am in 8th grade ;)

It was posted by one more knowledgeable than me, and it worked, so I do not see why you would say so? Explain?

CLR I had to clean a crap load of salt and other stuff out of my big tank before I could set it up and i started with vin and water and that worked but not as fast as I needed it to. so someone suggested CLR to me and that was the end of that. CLR will eat that crap fast. just make sure you clean the tank down good when you're done so no CLR residue is still on the glass.
