used filters?

im just wondering is it ok to buy used filters? some of my friends say no but wat do u guys think?

Depends on well the original user has treated it and whether it might have something wrong with it (leaky O-ring, missing impeller, worn parts, etc.) Another problem is whether or not it was used on a SW setup and you're going to use it on FW. It can be cleaned, but it's tedious.

if there's nothing wrong with it why not just be sure to check.

I pick up used filters all the time. Some end up bieng parted out while others are cleaned and put into servace. My Blog..This Old Filter...has a growing collection of tips and tricks for older filters.

I pick them up and clean them... you can at least get parts from them to fix some good ones...

I bought a used filter. I brought a 5 gallon bucket and tested it in front of the guy before I payed. It worked, I bought it.

I bought a used sump that was on salt. What do I need to do to get it ready for FW? It is dry.

Just clean it well, use a little bleach to get rid of any bad things that may have been in there, then wash & rinse well again. You shouldn't be able to smell the chlorine.
