Guys take a look at the pics and let us know what you think. clm08k clm08k is thinking od purchasing this used acrylic tank for a great price. All she would need is a new pump and some help from us on setting up the sump.

For now these are the pics we have shes going to try and get more. Do you guys see anything alarming ?

J jaws7777 whats going on with the corners? It almost looked like a glass tank that someone resealed that put a thick bead of silicone and spread it on to the front and side panels. Could just be the lighting or the angle the picture was taken.

I thought the same but wanted you all to chime in with fresh eyes.

Chris from midwest explained that there are usually bubbles along the seems but not in them. He said something about jow they cement acrylic on measuem peices differently and those show no bubbles but its a longer process = more $$$ lol

I noticed the corners too. I'm not that knowledgeable on acrylic, but I've seen some really nice looking seams that look a lot better than that. If it's a really good deal and the seams are solid, then I'd go for it.

I do think it could use a new and larger sump. The one on there looks a little small.

Agreed with this 100%. I have a tank that the corners would turn off any potential buyer but it is fine and has been for years. Just make sure someone knowledgeable has a chance to view the joint(s) in person before buying.

They said they bought the sump last year new for $200. I am brand new to sumps...but also thought it looked a little small too.

Seller said that the tank holds water and has never leaked. But they said that they are pricing it so low because it isn't a pretty tank. Said they added some extra acrylic to the inside corner seams for extra security. To my understanding shouldn't all seams be removed before adding new ones? I've never had acrylic tank before though.

Also said there are water stains on the inside which aren't visible from the outside.

Oh Lordy. That is not me hahaha. :/

What should I be looking for?

Bubbles in the seam. That would be bad. Anything that even resembles a seam separating and run like hell LOL.. if it's just crazing it should be fine (tiny worm like cracks that are on the surface but not deep in the material). Crazing can come from simple things like cleaning agents etc.

if you are scared of the seams you can always add some at stock in the seam and reseal it. It's fugly though, fair warning. Hence my comment about my tank. That's what mine has.
