Today I was reading how ldschmdit29 tank exploded and I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem?

I am planning on buying a used tank soon but now I am having second thoughts.

I bought a 300 Gallon tank. Water Tested it tonight. After an hour I heard a huge explosion. It had literally busted by the seams. Luckily it was in my garage. It hit my car left a dent. Broke my 55 gallon that was behind it. Got everything in my garage soaked, and left glass scattered everywhere. I would say thousand dollars or more of damage.... The guy I bought it from said it was in great condition and had been up for 4 years prior to him taking it down 2 months ago...I'm at a loss of what to do now...Thank God My pregnant wife or I were not standing near it.

Sorry for your lost ldschmdit29. Glad nobody was hurt.

Most of my tanks are used, i just check the seams and water test it. Luckily, none of the seams have ripped on me.

I've bought a few in the past. I just reseal them regardless of whether or not they already hold water. I'd rather reseal then assume they'll hold water over the long term. I've never had a busted tank since. (hope I didn't just jinks it)

the guy i buy my tanks from reseals them for me, no issues thus far. and not a big difference between his prices and getting it strait from the original seller. he eevn painted the back of my 100g for me on the last one.

I'm using a used 150gallon... I got it for free tho.. so didnt have to pay..

But i did test it for almost 2 weeks before putting any fish inside.. just to leak test the tank

as long as u test.. its fine..

While there is always a chance of a tank being defective(even new), common sense and a good inspection need be applied.

You use the above 300g as an example, but if you do some research you can find dozens of used tanks that exhibit no problems. Not to mention the 300g that blew, was questionable at best before it had been filled.

I've bought my tanks from craigslisters. It's amazing the deals you can find. Just be sure to do a thorough inspection before exchanging cash.

My favorite tank is a used 150. I told the guy I'd help him drain it if he would wait till I got there so I could see it working before I picked it up.
