Hi there, I brand spanking new in forums, and my inquiry is, I am going to running an African Cichlid 90gal tank. I have 2 RENA XP3 canister filters, and my idea was to run one completely with Seachem Matrix Bio biological media, and the second filter with two baskets with Rena Foams (2 - 20 mesh, and 2 - 30 mesh) and the top basket with Seachem Purigen.

Am I going about this okay if I want to run two filters at the same time. I am trying to get away from having to disturb any of my biological media when I clean the sponges or replace the Purigen/ Carbon. Or should I be equally dividing the canisters with the same set ups in each. (IE: foams in basket 1, bio media in basket 2, and carbon in basket 3)??

This tank was a planted tank that was taken over by plant debris, algae, and tiny little bastard snails. (god they drove me nuts)

Either way, I hope someone with knowledge can help me out. My local fish store pointed me to Monsterfishkeepers and said I could find out what I was looking for here. Thanks to all in advance.

I am running two xp3s on a 75. I have both mechanical and bio in each canister. That way you can alternate cleanings and always have undisturbed media. And in case anything happens to one filter you always have a back up. Personally I skip the carbon except for removing medications other wise its a waste of money.

Your better of running the foam in both filters before your bio media. If you don't run any type mech media before the bio media, the bio will get gunked up and become less effective.

I know that is a running debate, not running carbon, I did find every time I did use it the water did become a lot clearer to look at. I bought the product now, so I guess I am stuck using the Purigen.
