Alright folks, so, what I've decided to do when I move (and I've already gotten the OK from the big boss, the wife!) is put an above ground pool in my garage and use it as a pond. probably an 18' round pool. My question pertains to filtering that bad boy - what kind of filter do you all recommend that I use for this kind of setup?
I made mine, used a 150g stock tank for a sump works really well
I would also suggest you put foam insulation board under the pool to help with heat loss
Depending on if your garage has sheetrock or not you're gonna need a cover. Otherwise you're going to get mold. Unless you replace with the green moisture resistant stuff, or something else.
As far as filtration, I agree with the water trough sump. Probably the easiest thing. Otherwise think any other pond related filter options. You can also use the sand filters for pools for bio.
Also, this site has a ton of stuff for ponds, koi, and aquaculture that would work great, albeit expensive: http://www.aquaticeco.com/
Far as pumps, I like the regular flotec fountain pumps at home depot because they flow plenty of water and are easy and affordable to replace if one goes out. No ordering online trying to overnight it in the nick of time, or searching pet stores. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...ads-_-pla-_-100211179&ci_gpa=pla#.UF3iVo1mTJY
I dunno what he deal with the bad reviews is or how the people were using them. I've only replaced mine once in 5 yrs, and my danners have worse life overall on high head height applications *shrug*.
They are not quiet, but in a garage that's not a huge worry. I use one on my 220g, whose sump is behind the wall in another room.
And filtration I used a 50g rubbish bin with 30 pounds lava rock just for bio filtration and a 50g container with 30 pounds lava rock and filter mat for mech filtration
