Tagging along on this thread since I often wondered about this

There is no reason you could not use a reactor either w purigen, biomedia, carbon, or Po4 media. But you also could add a eheim canister filter w upflow bottom to top and add anything you want as I did and have been pleased w the result. If you have a sump reactors work well or you could use a hang on one. I have used the bulk reef supply, the phosban and nextreef reactors . to be honest I still pre fer the eheim in the long run. The reasons are first large media capacity multi media at a time, most reactors flow best w only one type of media, second they last for yrs I have some 2217 in use for 20 yrs never a problem. with the reactots I would recommend personally two little fishes or bulk reef NO SCREWS to deal with. Good luck!

Thank you for the reply.

What is the purpose of using a phosphate reducing media for freshwater? Any ideas on sizing the reactor, flow and media quantity? I sent Bulk Reef an email asking the same questions, they responded that they are not familiar with using their reactors for freshwater or with media such as Purigen.

I do have a sump, I'm thinking I can install it in or over the sump, pulling water from the sump and returning it to the display?
