Any certain plastic type I should look for or stay away from? My buddy has decided to leave the hobby and has 2 bichirs I sold him and several more I'd like to pick up, only issue is I don't have enough room in my tanks right now.

I do have some totes and am buying a mature eheim canister from him also, so the tote will have a colonized filter immediately. I have some large green 40 ga ones I can use, just need to be sure its safe for the polys.

Anything Rubbermaid is safe, stay away from anything that has metal.

The thin-walled totes have too much bowing if you plan on filling the totes most of the way up. Using totes is fine provided you build simple wood boxes to hold the filled totes. This will prevent the totes from blowing out due to excessive bowing.

Ive used rubbermade totes for growouts and hospital tanks before. No issues at all but if they are filled more than halfway they will bow as previously stated. Checkout tractor supply if you have one close, they have some harder plastic feed troughs that are a bit better imo

Thanks for the advice guys, id only really need to fill it halfway since its only bichirs. Still though to make sure nothing bad happens ill leave the lid on like joe suggested. itll be weird buying fish back that i already had lol i cant let those guys sit in an LFS though

Also the tote i plan on using is a heavy duty rubbermaid, when i was cutting one up to make the lid to my 70 i couldnt use scissors or even an utility knife, had to bust out the saws-all so i dont think ill have to worry about bowing lol
