I have a 125 that I'm currently using and I'm planning on upgrading to a 220 in the future. The 125 is very old and the sheets of glass are almost an inch thick. The 125 is starting to leak at the top and I bought it with the stand for only 200 dollars. I was wondering if I could cut the pieces of glass apart and use it for a plywood tank. The front sheet is about 6 feet long and 18 inches high. I think it would work and look nice but I'm not sure if maybe I missed something. Any advice is appreciated.

I have taken apart a glass tank before and used the glass pieces there is no reason it should not work just fine. At least in my experience though it was quite a pain to get the glass pieces seperated (and the top of the pieces were sharp !!! )

Reusing the glass is not a problem as long as you don't go too high (deep).

Use a razor knife to separate the glass pieces, wear safety glasses as it's possible to create small chips of glass from the edges while cutting the silicone separating them.

There are several thread + posts here on using the glass on wood tanks too.

Hope you make a monster and keep us involve!

Just think of it this way, you could turn one tank into 3 MONSTER tanks!

Haha thanks for the replies. Its good to hear it can be reused. The glass sheets are really thick because there is no bracing at the top. Unfortunately I won't be attempting a plywood tank for about two years but its good to know that I might be able to save some money in the future and that I should hold onto the tank instead of maybe selling it. And of course when I go for the big build ill definitely share with everyone.

So go ahead and reseal the tank and use it until you decide to build a monster, or you can give it to me. No sense in letting it sit idle.

Ill probably have to reseal it since the piranha are in there. The plan is to keep the piranha in the 125 put the Texas and some others in the 220 then when the time comes to build the big tank move the inhabitants from the 220 to the monster and add more then move the piranha to the 220.
