I recently acquired some juvenile Geophagus sveni and a similarly tiny Caquetaia spectabilis (big thanks to Tangled Up In Cichlids for such healthy fish, already coloring up very well) and I have them in a 10 gallon growout tank right now.
They're all around 1"-1.5", and I only need them to reach about 2.5" to be safe in my main tank.
However, I'm trying to save some space and, for my lady's sake, minimize the space taken up by various aquariums in our home.
Would a fenestrated plastic breeder box within my main tank be a viable way to house these small fish for a couple months while they grow a bit? Or is there a reason this wouldn't work? Would it be too stressful for them when compared to having their own tank?
If so, has anyone tried the Fluval HOB breeder boxes that use an air pump to move water through them? Those seem decent as well, just a little less convenient.
