I've seen 10g bins for sale. Could I use them as a tank for guppy fry? Will they hold the weight of the water? :screwy:

They should work fine. If you want to make them extra-safe, you could double them up, with a bit of styrofoam between the two on the bottom.

Do you think I'll need an air pump for 3 or 4 guppies?(the adults, not the fry)

I think it would be a good idea to make a sponge filter for each tub . . . it's made around a small air pump with an air stone at the end. Take a piece of sponge, then make a cut so that the air stone fits into the middle of the sponge and weighs it down. The air bubbles rising out of the sponge will draw water through the sponge, and it should be gentle enough that the guppies and fry won't be bothered by it.

I think almost anything will work as a sponge, as long as it hasn't been anti-mildew treated. Pond sponge, loofah pad, maybe a thick filter pad from an existing filter, maybe a replacement sponge from the filter section of the aquarium store. The bonus to making one, instead of buying a sponge filter, is that once you're done, the air pump can be re-purposed for something else, and it can be a little cheaper than buying.
