has anybody made or know where i can get a surface skimmer for an fx5 called fluval they dont make one
this is on a 150 gal aquarium

You may not need a skimmer. Just tilt your outfalls so they stir up the surface. The junk on the surface will then be pulled into the current and be filtered out. Make sure the outfalls are tilted down or across the water, not pointing up! That would be messy... lol

Saves you money... :)

You can either raise your outfalls or lower your water level to fix this problem.

I have 2 fX5s one output is pointed up to agitate the surface of the water the other out put is pointed down.I had the same issue with the film ontop of the water till I pointed the one output up now it's fine no film.

You could put a powerhead on the opposite side of the tank as your intake and have it point at the surface for agitation.

Or you can put an air pump with a bubble disk in the tank. You just have to have something to break the surface tension so the film won't collect on the surface.

+1

The stuff that becomes a film on the surface is not necessarily filterable. Much of it is/are DOC (dissolved organic carbon compounds), and just because you can't see it/them doesn't mean its gone from the water. DOC is fish urine, amino acids and aldehydes from metabolism, etc, they are nitrate precursors, and invisible unless they collect on an air water interface (the surface, or attached to bubbles).
They are removed with water changes, and or protein skimming. A major reason you can filter til you are blue in the face, and must not neglect water changes.
One of my fresh water bio filtration protein skimmers.
