I just bought myself a new surf rod and got some plugs for striper. But i cant shake the feeling that im like Larry Dahlberg using these giant plugs and crankbaits for striper. Anyone else ever feel like this using big lures or heavy tackle or am I just weird like that.

i like to throw big baits for catfish sometimes, i feel like i look stupid throwing a 6" bluegill off the pier when everyone else is still stuck on worms. Theyll catch a bunch all night of dinks nothing over 2lbs with no meat on them. But when my rod slams and i pull up that 8lb cat onto the pier, they look at me in disbelieve when i let his ass go home.
i use 8 foot rods with lots of backbone so i can use the heavy sinkers and have no problems handling the larger cats. I cast like a champ compared to these idiots with their light tackle trying to catch catfish like me.

I throw 12 ounces of lead and a whole, live croaker or spot all the time, usually with a 10-15'leader of 250 lb stranded wire. Me grunt, big splash, big tooth come.
Just throw what you want, if somebody looks at you funny, speak some straight up gibberish and they'll leave you alone, and gets you a good laugh.

i caught a 5lber off the pier today when they weren't biting. Some guy keeping everything tiny itty bitty thing he caught got upset and called me an ******* when i told him it was my catch and its going back in the river, i laughed at him and tossed the fish back.
