I've recently started breeding Dalmatian Mollies as food for my Ornate Bichir and my Red Wolf fish, anyone have exp in this? Are they good nutritionally? I gut load them (feed em right before giving em to the preds) with brine shrimp and flake food.

Another thing is Ornate Breeding, I posted in the breeding section w/o luck so hopefully someone here can, info on water parameters would be great, I know they breed when they hear the sound of thunder and rain as they breed in the rainy season in the wild.

I don't know about breeding them so as far as water parameters go, sorry. But I do know quite a bit about feeder fish. One thumb rule I like to use is if it is a live bearer, chances are its great for your fish. But really what it come down to is nutritional value and one thing that is far from it is any fish feeder that contains thiaminase. School yourself up on what that is and you'll further be able to tell what you can or can't( shouldn't be feeding your fish). Thiaminase will prevent your fish from becoming healthy. Goldfish are one fish that side say are worthless to fish and even more scarey can cause health problems in fish. But a ton of foods made for fish have mostly goldfish as a main supplement. Just get aware of this. I do believe there is a stickie in the general section about thiaminase. Mollies, platies, danios, killiefish, and sometimes guppies depending on what they eat are all of examples of good feeders. Goldfish, should not be in any fishes diet.

I'm the guy who posted the Breeding Ornates thread. If you are interested, I made up a summary document and can send it to you. Just send me a message with your email. Good luck!

I checked out this summary document he is referring to and it is a pretty interesting read.

Thank you shopko! That would be great, I'm still in the process of finding a proper breeding mate for my female, soon as I find him I will be needing that!

Ever since someone at Petsmart told me not to feed goldfish to even my northern water snake a few years back I've avoided them at all costs, haven't used em for food since that, and at that point my only monster was that water snake so I'm glad for the help from her. That is great info tho for many many people I've told a fair share of people in my day with a big bag of goldfish at my LFS to not feed there pets those. At all. Thiamen also inhibits organ and structural growth of any piscavore (fish eater). Basically its like throwing your pets in a tank way too small for it.
