I'm going to make another batch of food for my jd's and sev's. The last mix consisted of raw shrimp, green peas, carrots, and 100% pure spirulina flake with some garlic guard for a little added flavor. I then freeze it and cut it into squares. They love it.

This time around I was gonna try adding knox blox (gelatain) to hold it all together better, it gets a kinda messy as it is now. I was also thinking of adding Naturose Astaxanthan Powder from Ken's Fish. Here is the description on the website:

NatuRose(tm) is a natural source of astaxanthin, derived from a unique strain of the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis. The majority of the NatuRose carotenoid fraction is astaxanthin, with about 15% of the remaining fraction consisting of canthaxanthin, lutein and beta-carotene. This highly concentrated form of natural astaxanthin has been carefully formulated into a fine, free flowing dark red powder and is an essential nutritional requirement for shrimp maturation and larviculture.

Mix this with your flake and pellet food at the rate of 1 part Nuturose to 500 parts feed. This will increase the platability and digestion of your food. Within 1-2 weeks you will see a large difference in the health and color of your fish because of the high amounts of Astaxanthan.

So, has anyone else tried this stuff? And what about the mix rate of 1 part to 500 part? IF I was making 4 gallons of food that would be only 1 oz. of the astaxanthan. I'm not even close to that kind of quantity.

Any ideas or opinions?

TIA

I used it before, I didn't use it that long. 2 weeks at the most then just didn't feel like soaking foods in the naturose.

I would just throw some into a plastic container with water, mix it well then soak the pellets/shrimp or whatever for a bit then feed the fish. I did this almost everyday for 2 weeks, way over the 1/500 rate. Fish lived, lol.
