I just bought a system I diatom filter and was checking out the prices of DE. For $20 I can buy 5 lbs of "aquarium" DE, or 25 lbs of "pool" DE. Im guessing the pool DE is identical to those marketed by system I or vortex for aquarium use since they are both for filter use. What do you think? Does anyone use the pool DE with their diatom filter?

ive heard this is a no no. not safe for the fish or owners.

The aquarium grade is finer and screened to more exacting standards.

If you use pool grade in the aquarium filter it will blow dust thru into your tank and I think most Aqaurium DE's say it voids their warrenty. Check your paperwork.

Great filters for polishing the water and getting out floating algae problems, but has to be cleaned alot.

If you didn't know, Don't breather the dust, accumulative and bad for the lungs.

Seriously Bad.
