I have not used them for years when I had UGFs but I see many of you use them without the ugf... Do you guys use them for water movement or to move debris or is there another reason I dont know about?

Water movement and to move debris closer to an inlet to be picked up by a filter. Some of us use them to power sponge filters as well. Powerheads are more important than I think allot of hobbiest realize. Below is a link to a thread about dead zones and the corresponding water perams (ie - not enough curculation)

I use powerheads to make all sorts of DIY filters.

i use 3 hydors in one tank on a timer to come on twice a day to get rid of total dead zones. i just run them an hour or two at a time. and they do wonders for water clarity. one or two would be enough but i had them so i might as well use them

:iagree:

I think compared to their natural environment, fish in aquariums generally don't get enough current whatsoever.

On our German board we found a lot of fish dying due to being too fat, which might also be a reason of not enough water movement and therefore "work" for the fish.

Same for humans where heart diseases become more and more common based on malnutrition and a lack of exercise.

Will have 3 power heads running in my 240 for curculation only.
