Has anyone tried this? I may try it on some anubias and java fern. From what I've read, it works well because it holds the rhizomes/roots in place long enough to take hold before it completely dissolves. However, I've also read that it will kill the roots that it touches so use it sparingly. Apparently there are no obvious adverse effects, but I'm still hesitant to add potentially harmful chemicals to the aquarium.

I think it would be better to try fishing line or something similar. I agree...I would be hesitant to put super glue in my tank. But, now that I think about it, silicone is used of course as well as many water sealing products in DIY tanks.

Hopefully someone that has tried this before will reply!

Good luck...

If I was to try and attempt doing something like this, I'd call the manufacturer and ask them if there would be any chemical poisoning effects on your fish. Once you have your answer, It would be a go/no go issue from there. If it's a no go issue, I'd find an alternative solution. Hope this helps you some. Best of luck to you in what you find out.

You shouldn't have any problems using super glue (cyanoacrylate) in your tank, reefers have been using it for years to attach soft corals to frag plugs and live rock. I have never used it to attach live plants so I'm not sure if it will harm the cells it comes into contact with. I would just use fishing line to attach plants or you could glue down the ends of the fishing line so your not wrapping the line around the whole driftwood.

Yeah agreed, good to research how the reefers do it. I don't know if specific brands are considered better than others.

I use it all the time for anubias and java fern and java moss. It does not harm the plant and have never had an issue with it and my fish. I frequent aquariacentral and they all use it too. It is so much easier than fishing line. And you never worry about it again.

zap gel?

does it hurt the roots like the OP say it might?

am interested in trying this with my clown loaches already working the plants free from the fishing line...

I use elastics... I wouldnt want to take the chance with harmful chemicals... The elastic works great.. The fish dont mind so much that they lay eggs right next to it... Its super cheap, easy, and with no harmful side effects... Yes sometimes they break and I got to reach in and get them out but the fish know its not food. I used them in all my planted tanks

I use a super glue gel to attach both java ferns and anubias to wood and rocks. Never had an issue in over a year's time.
