So I bought a indo datnoid about 3 months ago at about 1" and he was the only datnoid in the tank. Just beautiful! Always stable and has a great pattern. There were other misc. fish in the tank and they never bothered anyone. We picked up another indo datnoid that is smaller than the 1st one and they had their little quarrels and now pretty much leave eachother alone. Well datnoid #1 is now COMPLETELY black and just huddles in the corner all day. He is about 3" now which is an amazing growth rate so he is eating just fine. I want my pretty datnoid back! They are so ugly when they're unstable! There is plenty of hiding spots (lot's of plants and driftwood) and he just isn't happy. I know you are supposed to get a group of them not just two, But I don't think it is because of the other datnoid because they don't fight barely at all. They don't even chase eachother around the tank anymore. Any ideas?

Thanks guys!

you can rearrange the decor all you want...it won't matter as you're going have to add more. A group of 5 at the minimum IMO

Agreed. Indos can go unstable when ever they want. And go stable again completely unexpectedly....

We have already tried re arranging the plants all sorts of ways, nothing! Instead of getting more (because I don't really want 5) could I separate them? I mean I don't think the number of datnoids is the problem because the other one is stable as ever! and the stable one is the smaller of the two.

I have had dats that show their best color when alone, even if they do not fight with tho others. Don't rearrange decor as that will just prolong his unstableness. I would move the new dat to a new tank if you want your old dats color back. That or getting a couple more.

i had 4 dats when i started .. all stressed .. all not doing well ... 2 of them died ... now the other 2 are as happy as can be .. and always stable ..

they never fought .. but i think just the other 2 being in the tank stressed out the whole lot ..

it really sucked that i lost 2 dats ... but im still happy because i have 2 happy and healthy dats left
