I set up a 15 watt UV light to treat my tank for ick. How long do I need to run it? None of my fish have it, but as soon as I put a clown loach or clown pleco in there they need to go to QT. I ended up giving them away cause I didn't have the UV light at the time. And I don't want to get anymore until I'm sure it's gone.

Please respond if you have personal experience only. Thanks for your time.

I wouldn't give your fish away just because you didn't have UV.
Heat and salt is the best remedy for ick.
Also, the fish should go to QT before they go in the main tank.

Opps. Sorry. Let me clarify. I have the UV light running now. I don't have those two types of fish anymore though.

What I mean is, I don't have any way of knowing if the ick is gone since the the only fish to get infected are gone now. So I was wondering if aynone on the board used a UV light to get rid of ick and how long it took.

I don't have any UV experience myself. Sorry. But I do believe they are designed to be run continuously. For the heat and salt treatment, I let it go for a week or so after any visible symptoms are gone. So I guess I would leave the UV on for another week if not on all the time.
With ick, it's safe to assume if one has it they all have it. Better safe than sorry.
