Hey guys I have a bit of an algae prob with it always returning 2-3 days after a water change and me scrubbing it off. So the guy at my lfs suggested these UV light sterilizer things things. Was just wondering if...
Many ppl use them?
They actually work?
Any recommended types or brands. (keeping in mind I am far from having a lot of spare $$ hanging around)

Thanks 4 any help guys :)

UV can help with free floating algal cells, it does not kill algae established on the glass.
Scraping never gets all algae that is imbedded into semi microscopic fissures, one of the reasons it seems to always start to come back in the same spots.

I find using a UV sterilizer definitely does help cut down on algae growth at least a little, but personally use it more as a way to try and prevent disease breaking out in the tank...

Algae is ubiquitous, scraping algae is comparable to sweeping a floor, or shoveling snow, it is something we do as fish keepers.
Water changes, algae eaters, UV sterilizers, less light, all help, but it really comes down to this.

Cut down on lighting time and the amount you feed your fish. UV is okay but it's not taking care of why you have an algae problem.

That's such a simple but clever little idea Duanes.
Doing 20% water changes twice a week ATM but can probably cut back on the lighting and food a bit.
So any suggestions on which UV to get? I have a 5x2x2 with American cichlids in it if that matters? :)

Thanks again for the help guys
