Best answer as usual is 'it depends'

Also from what i understand those are not the best quailty or most effcient type of UV. AquaUV sells a good product but i have yet to use one so i can't say for sure.

What are you trying to elimanate with a UV if just free floating algae the the flow rate can be higher but bacteria it needs to be slower and parisites slower yet.

I have this brand: http://cgi.ebay.com/SALE-9W-Aquariu...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45f4228a47

I have the previous model version of that for a year and all the maintenance I've done was changing the bulb, which can also be found on eBay for about $10. It may be cheap but its worked perfectly on my in-line setup.

I run it 24/7 for about a month following any new fish or plant additions. Then after it only goes on if/when fish show signs of disease or injury. I only run it at about 80-90gph and the 900gph advertised is a bunch of BS. At that flow rate it wont do anything....
