I was thinking of getting a Uv Sterilizer and am a bit confused on what they actually do!
1. will algae still grow on ornaments and panes?
2.will biological filtration still be achieved?

Yes to both questions. UV sterilizers are good for a green water problem, but will not get rid of the algae on surfaces (it kills the algae in the water when the water passes through the UV sterilizer). The sterilizer will also kill other pathogenic micro-organisms in the water. It will not affect the beneficial bacteria in your filtration system. The BB resides primarily in the bio media and not in the water passing through the UV sterilizer.
