Hi guys,
I am setting us a planted aquarium and I also have an Arowana tank. This Arowana tank has the Algae issues. My canister dint comes with the UV.

On the internet I found a DIY saying to do a sterilization cheaply.

..
It looks very cheap. But I have a doubt as they use UV-c light in this kit, will it be harmful to fishes and plants?

Has anyone tried this? Is this effective?

You can get UV clarifiers for aquariums which cost less than $500 im sure...

But to answer your question, UV-C yes is very harmful as it can cause cancer if a person is exposed to the light long enough (without the protective case) but with water passing through that type of system it wont kill everything unless its given a lot of exposure time via a slow flow rate passing through...

At least thats the most basic explanation about UV...

As for your plants and fish, they dont get effected as they are never directly exposed to the light itself...

Planning to get this kit. It has a protective aluminium casing.
Will Connect my 400 L/H powerhead to it so water will be circulated.

In anyway the water getting energised or radiated and then it harms the fishes or plants or shrimps?

All UV sterilizers use UV-C. Only direct exposure to the light is dangerous. The water is safe as ever.

The chamber cannot be made of aluminum. Aluminum corrodes when in contact with water and does not meet drinking water standards. It has to be of stainless steel.
This being a 11W unit should be good for a tank of 125 gallons.
