Hey All,

I am thinking of applying a UV sterilizer to a monster aquarium 1000 gallons for clarification purposes.
The UV lamp is 13W, and the vendors info says its rated for a 200 gallon aquarium or a 1500 gallon pond.
Just confused as to why the capacity difference between aquarium and ponds application. I would like to use this on my soon to be aquarium.

Thanks :asianarow

Ponds require low UV dosage (less than 22mJ/cm^2) to keep it clear. Must pond keepers install an UV to prevent green water from sun exposure.
UV sterilizers designed for aquarium use are mainly for pathogens requiring a higher UV dosage. Some pathogens require more dosage than others. Manufacturers will quote tank size based on 30mJ/cm^2 with a specific flow rate.
Hence, the difference in pond vs tank.
