and yeah i was wondering what it could do to improve my fresh water tank? iv researched it last night and found it might be quite helpful i was ju8st wondering all your guys opinion on the idea.

I've always used a UV on my freshwater tank. Its 125g.

I have SA/CA cichlids. It helps keep the water crystal clear, helps protect fish from free floating baddies like parasites or other harmful micro-organisms. Also kills free floating algae to avoid green water.
(it does not kill hair algae and it will NOT hurt your bacterial beds in the filters) it ONLY kills FREE floating organisms. So it wont mess with any of your biological filtration

I dont think you NEED to have one. But if you arent afraid to go overboard to keep your fish healthy and beautiful, then a UV Sterilizer is a good choice.

I'll always have one. :)

thank you very much im going to start to look for one now.

now any one know about protin skimmers effects on fresh water? And is it necessary or useful @ all

well i have uv on freshwater and i love it!!! inlet vinil tube is dirty as hell but outlet is clean like new and i have been running it for 2 months already so it works perfectly ;) it will help you improve water quality but you need to have good ratio of w/g/h. I read somewhere that 1uv watt for 10 gall . In order to efficently kill all organizms you need 75 - 90 gph. If you want to just kill algae its 120 -140 gph.
well hoped i helped ;)

I got mine to help prevent disease in my tank. 18w, I run it at about 150gph (which is what it slows my 260gph canister down to.) I got it after I realized a new fish had some ich. The ich did not break out.
I've never had trouble with water clarity so that's not why I got it. I can probably turn it off and remove it now, but I haven't bothered.
